Kayla Brimlow

South Kingstown

Kayla is a math teacher at Curtis Corner Middle school in South Kingstown. After graduating from the University of Rhode Island, she returned to her hometown to begin her career. During the 2016-2017 school year, she was awarded “Rookie of the Year” from RIMTA (Rhode Island Mathematics Teacher Association). Her educator superpower is flexibility! She is always willing to try something and step outside of the “box” to best meet all student needs. By listening to others’ ideas, providing multiple opportunities for feedback to reflect, and going with the flow, she continues to reach her diverse learners. She is excited to be a part of Fuse RI because she loves to collaborate and grow as an educator. In addition to learning and sharing her knowledge, she looks forward to pushing herself outside of her comfort zone and trying new tools/activities.
ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Given confidence & voice to share ideas she developed in her department & school community
  • Developed a strong network to connect with like-minded individuals who are pushing blended learning throughout the state
  • Ability to stay current with best practice, improving her self-reflection and giving her best to her students
  • Identified need for practical lessons and resources, specifically in mathematics, pushing her lesson design and pedagogy
